Bloor Homes submits plans for 75 homes in Uppingham

Plans to build 75 new homes in Uppingham have been submitted by Bloor Homes to Rutland County Council.

The Leicestershire-based developer has applied for planning permission to build the homes on land to the south of Leicester Road.

A number of minor changes have been made to the plans following feedback received at a public exhibition, which was held at Uppingham Town Hall in May.

The changes include an increase in the number of plots on the Leicester Road frontage, larger front gardens to allow for more landscaping provision, and an increased area of public open space.

Parking courts have also been kept to a minimum and will include landscaping.

The development, which is located on a 3.29 hectare site earmarked for housing in the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan, will include 26 affordable homes.

The homes will range from one and two-bedroom bungalows and terraced houses, to five-bedroom detached houses. All have been designed to blend in with their surroundings.

Each home will have two off-street parking spaces, while every open market house will have its own garage.

Jason Woolliscroft, regional managing director for Bloor Homes Midlands, said the development will “provide much-needed new quality housing, while preserving the unique character” of Uppingham.

He added: “Our new homes have been carefully designed to reflect their surroundings and will provide something for everyone, from first-time buyers to large families.

“We have worked very closely with Uppingham Town Council and the Neighbourhood Plan Task Group to create a proposal which meets the needs of the local community, and the majority of residents who attended the exhibition in May expressed their support for the scheme.

“We have listened very carefully to feedback provided by residents and, as a result of their comments, we have made some minor changes to the proposed layout and landscaping of the development.”

Subject to planning approval, Bloor aims to start work in February 2016 with the first homes for sale in June 2016.
