Cottesmore artist donates portrait of Captain Tom Moore to Empingham Medical Centre

A portrait of national hero Captain Tom Moore now has pride of place on the wall of a GP surgery.

It was presented to Empingham Medical Centre by artist Andrea Naylor, 52, who lives in nearby Cottesmore with her 12-year-old daughter.

Captain Tom turned 100 last month and has now raised more than £32 million to help support the NHS through the coronavirus crisis.

Dr Alison Guthrie, from the surgery, said: “As the surgery has had a long association with the army barracks locally, it is a fitting tribute to have the portrait on display in the waiting room for patients and staff to admire and appreciate.”

The portrait, called ‘Our NHS Hero’, was done in pastel, which is Andrea’s favourite medium.

She added: “I felt driven to do a portrait of Captain Tom Moore to commemorate the amazing amount of money he has raised to help the NHS.”
