Prestige car dealership RM Traders opens in Great Casterton, Stamford

A man who sat his driving theory test on his 17th birthday is opening a car dealership today (Friday, January 21).

Hassan Rahman, 21, started selling and hiring vehicles while still a student at university.

But when the business expanded and started taking over his parents’ driveway, Hassan was encouraged by his dad to branch out and find premises of his own.

As a result, RM Traders opened today next to the filling station off the Old Great North Road, Great Casterton.

Hassan is no stranger to running a business, having learned the ropes as restaurant manager at the Bombay Cottage in Scotgate, Stamford, which his dad, Habib, has owned and run for nearly 30 years.

“I started helping out there when I was 13, and although I wasn’t keen on going to university, my parents were and so I studied business management at De Montfort University in Leicester,” said Hassan.

“While there I sold about 40 to 50 cars that I advertised on Instagram and Facebook, and hired vehicles to students for days or nights out.”

A lover of cars since his days as a pupil at St Gilbert’s Primary School in Stamford, Hassan lined up his driving theory test for his 17th birthday, and passed his driving test just two months later.

He now focuses on prestige and performance vehicles and his dream car these days is ‘G-Wagon’ Mercedes-Benz G-Class multi-terrain vehicle.

“When I’m looking for cars to sell, I look for well-kept, HPI Clear vehicles - those that haven’t been involved in accidents - with a full service history,” he added.

“I’m reinvesting every penny into the business at the moment, and my ambition is to have 30 to 35 cars for sale by the end of the year.”
