Day of disruption on trains between Peterborough and Stevenage after police deal with sudden death at St Neots train station

Commuters have faced delays of between 30 and 90 minutes on trains between Peterborough and Stevenage this afternoon, Monday September 14, as police dealt with a sudden death.

Emergency services were called at 12pm to reports that someone had been hit by a train at St Neots station in Cambridgeshire.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to St Neots station in Cambridgeshire at 12pm on Monday, September 14, to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Cambridgeshire Constabulary and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Train timetables returned to normal at around 5.30pm, but even then residual delays remained.

Affected services included First Hull Trains between Hull and London Kings Cross, Grand Central between Sunderland / Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross, Great Northern between Peterborough and London Kings Cross and Virgin Trains East Coast between Inverness / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh / Leeds / York / Newark North Gate and London Kings Cross.
