Closure plans announced for Corby packaging factory but firm refuses to comment on Oakham site

A packaging company, which has a factory in Oakham, has announced the possible closure of its Corby operation.

Berry Global Group, which has its head office in Denmark, has proposed to close its Berry Superfos Thermoforming site in Sallow Road as part of consolidation plans.

The company declined to comment on whether its Oakham factory - RPC Containers in Schofield Road - will be affected by company streamlining.

Berry Global said proposals to close the Corby site, which produces plastic packaging, mainly for food, were part of efforts 'to streamline operations, increase capacity utilisation, and best serve its customers'.

Consultation is ongoing, with about 95 employees said to be impacted if the site closes.

"Should this be the case, we will work diligently to help those employees affected with a job loss to identify new opportunities in the Corby community and at other Berry locations," a spokeswoman said.
