Flying Scotsman passes through Deeping St James on its round trip from King's Cross to Skegness

A special visitor paid a flying visit to the area over the weekend.

The Flying Scotsman locomotive passed through the former Deeping St James station on Saturday on its return trip from London King's Cross to Skegness.

London and North Eastern Railway A3 Pacific No. 60103 'Flying Scotsman' was hauling the Railway Touring Company’s ‘The Jolly Fisherman’.

Flying Scotsman has a special affinity with Lincolnshire. On November 30, 1934, it became the first steam locomotive in the world to officially reach 100mph, running down the gradient on Stoke Bank on the East Coast Main Line between Grantham and Tallington.

This was the same stretch of track where A4 Pacific No. 4468 'Mallard' set the all-time record of 126mph on July 3, 1938.
