Rasell’s Nurseries in Little Bytham named 'glorious' by the Sunday Times

A garden centre has been named as one of the most ‘glorious’ by the Sunday Times.

Rasell’s Nurseries in Little Bytham has been recognised as one of 30 ‘Glorious Garden Centres’ from across the country.

In the June 7 edition of the Sunday Times, Rasell’s was in the categories for ‘exciting, inspiring places from which to fill your garden with colour’ and ‘favourite places to buy plants’.

James Aldous, an employee at Rasell’s Nurseries, said: “Starting from humble beginnings, the nursery has evolved over three generations to become a somewhat unique place to visit and I am told that people come from far and wide to explore what we have to offer.

“Although the nursery covers a 12-acre site in Little Bytham, it is by no means a large scale commercial business.

“The family who live on site, along with a small team of staff, pride themselves on using traditional techniques and growing plants in small quantities.

“These core values, attention to detail and the knowledge of the staff are what allow them to produce their plants to such a high standard.”

Rasell’s Nurseries was recognised by Tim Palmer, a freelance journalist who writes for the Sunday Times, after receiving an abundance of positive feedback from customers online and on social media.

“We are very proud,” said James.

“We have a lovely customer basis; the feedback has been second to none.”

A standout feature at the garden centre which the team believe helped them get recognised is its ‘inspirational borders’.

Each border uses unique planting combinations which allows customers to clearly see a plant’s full potential before committing to buy it as well as giving the nursery the feel of a private garden as opposed to a retail environment.

James said: “It provides an inspiration for gardeners, we welcome them on site to look at what can be done.

“We’ve got excellent staff led by Claire Rasell.

“She knows everything; She’s really good at advice and setting up excellent gardens.”

Staff at Rasell’s Nurseries also pride themselves on ‘The Tea House’ which people can visit for home-made cake, freshly prepared food and drinks. People are also able to purchase honey, flour, eggs and preserves sourced from producers in the area.

James thanked all customers, both old and new, for their continued support - especially through the coronavirus crisis - on behalf of all the family and staff at Rasell’s Nurseries.
