Oakham School pupil sets up JustJet flights business
Forward-thinking Charles Robinson has set up an international jet-set business - before he has even left school.
The 17-year-old advertises and sells seats on ‘empty flights’.
This helps to avoid chartered aircraft from making journeys without any passengers, and the enterprise has really taken off.
Charles, who is at Oakham School studying for A-levels in business, economics and geography, said: “To give an example, if someone charters a London-based private plane to fly them from Barcelona back to London, the plane will be empty on its way out to Spain.
“I would then sell seats on the London to Barcelona flight, meaning it is no longer flying with just the pilot on board.”
Called JustJet, the business launched in October with a London to Dubai flight on a nine-seater aircraft.
Since then Charles has sold about one flight a day while still concentrating on his school work.
His aim is to get a place at t Andrew’s University in Scotland this autumn, with the longer term goal of becoming an international property developer.
“I have two older brothers and an older sister, which has led to a bit of competition between us” said Charles, who lives in Egleton.
“Several people have offered to help me with the business, but I’ve kept it as 100 per cent me because all I need to run it well is a laptop and a mobile phone.”
Charles is selling flights to destinations that include Los Angeles and Miami in the USA, as well as European destinations that include Turin, Nice, Venice and Geneva.
