Oakham Primary School pupils given new bags by Allison Homes for Walk to School Week

School run parents and pupils have been encouraged to leave the car at home through a developers donation.

To celebrate Walk to School Week earlier this month, Allison Homes donated drawstring bags to Oakham CofE Primary School, encouraging children to walk or cycle to school with their parents and guardians.

Walk to School Week is a campaign organised annually by Living Streets to inspire children to walk, cycle and scoot to school every day.

A total of 68 bags were donated for every Year 1 and 2 pupil at the school, which is just over a mile away from the housebuilder’s Farriers Reach development in Main Road, Barleythorpe.

The bags were also filled with pens, pencils, rulers, reflective keyrings, stickers and hard hat-shaped stress balls.

“This is an excellent way to inspire our pupils to walk or cycle to and from school, and we’re delighted that so many of them are getting involved,” said headteacher Stephen Cox.
