Chocolate 'lock ins' at Hotel Chocolat in Stamford

What’s your idea of heaven?

If it’s being locked inside a chocolate shop, then you’re closer to finding it than you might think.

Hotel Chocolat has hit upon the idea of inviting chocolate lovers for a tasting session on selected evenings during the year.

An event in Stamford’s High Street shop has been held for Valentine’s Day, while the most recent after-hours gathering featured a ‘Cocktail Hour’ theme.

Warming up with a welcome ‘tot’ of cream liqueur, the evening began with a chance to go back to basics as far as chocolate is concerned - by peeling and crushing some cocoa beans into the best-smelling paste a chocoholic could hope to inhale.

Next up was a preparation of the taste buds before experiencing a range of ‘mystery’ chocolates, each oozing with alcohol.

The event was hosted by Hotel Chocolat’s Liz Jones and Molly Taylor, who offered advice on tasting chocolate including a handy list of descriptive terms relating to taste, texture, colour and aroma, so that nobody felt lost for words.

The next ‘lock in’ has a Mother’s Day theme and, like the shop’s April, May and June events is already sold out. Store manager Abbie Pautard is looking to add extra dates.

She said: “The lock ins have been a massive hit and I think they are attracting people through word of mouth more than anything.”

Tickets are available online and in-store for the Mellow Milkiness lock in on July 11 at 6.30pm. Each event caters for up to10 people.
