Rutland MP Alicia Kearns blasts Mallard Pass solar farm developers for decision not to attend public meeting at Essendine Village Hall

Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has branded a decision by developers behind the proposed Mallard Pass solar farm not to attend a public meeting as 'not acceptable'.

The meeting, organised by the Mallard Pass Action Group, was to allow residents to discuss the proposed 2,175-acre solar plant and question developers ahead of stage two of the planning consultation.

Mallard Pass had initially agreed to send a representative to the meeting that she will host at Essendine Village Hall on Thursday, April 7.

But Ms Kearns (Con) said the developers had announced yesterday (Tuesday) they would not be coming because ‘new information regarding our proposals for Mallard Pass will not be available’.

"I’m very disappointed that the Mallard Pass developers have decided not to take the opportunity to attend a public meeting with residents affected by their solar plant," said Ms Kearns.

"With most residents bitterly opposed to the Mallard Pass developers, this was an opportunity for them to make their case – and learn what residents think of their scheme.

"It’s quite something for an organisation claiming to be committed to engaging openly and honestly with the community to make a decision not to engage with the community. This is not acceptable."

Ms Kearns, who opposes the development and last month questioned China's links to the proposals, said the venue is due to be at capacity when the meeting is held and that a seat will be kept free for the developers in case they change their mind again.
