Manor Oak Homes applies for planning permission to build new homes near to Meadow Lane in Ryhall
Neighbours have spoken against plans to build new homes on the edge of their village.
Manor Oak Homes wants to build 63 properties to the south of Ryhall, on the green space between Meadow Lane and Belmesthorpe Road.
The land had already been earmarked for development in Rutland County Council’s draft local plan, but since the plan was scrapped, a flurry of housing applications have been submitted around the county.
On its website Manor Oak Homes states: "The application seeks to respond to the significant need for new homes in Rutland.
"The council confirmed in May that it cannot demonstrate a required five-year housing land supply. Therefore, there is an urgent need for suitable sites to come forward to deliver the much needed new housing."
The proposal for Ryhall would feature a range of one to four-bedroom properties, 19 of which would be sold as affordable homes.
Around 40 people attended a public meeting in September before the plans were approved, and several have contacted Rutland County Council to express their objections since the planning application was submitted two weeks ago.
Rutland Way resident Valerie Porter said: “My main concern is the access to this site as there could be an extra 100 cars going through Ryhall and trying to access the busy A6121.
“Meadow Lane is certainly not designed to take this amount of traffic as it is far too narrow.”
Other neighbours are worried about the impact on amenities such as schools and medical services, which they say are already at capacity.
Members of the public have until January 3 to submit their views to the council.
