The Slanted Door bar and restaurant in St Mary's Street, Stamford gets ready to open on August 8
The owners of a new bar and restaurant are preparing to open its ‘slanted’ door for the first time next month.
Brothers Oliver and Joseph Regis have spent lockdown turning a former Thai restaurant in St Mary’s Street, Stamford into The Slanted Door - a wine and cocktail bar with a separate fine dining restaurant.
It will be the first business they have run together, with a launch date set for Saturday, August 8.
Oliver, 35, who has worked for five years at the King’s Head in Maiden Lane, Stamford, said he and younger brother Joseph are delighted by the way the premises is looking, and with the interest it has already attracted.
He said: “Downstairs there is a bar where ‘small bites’ will be served to go with a bottle of wine or other drinks, and upstairs there will be a restaurant with an à la carte menu from Dameon Clarke, the chef who earned a great reputation locally at the Wicked Witch in Ryhall.
“We are so pleased to have Dameon as part of the team; his reputation in the area for fine dining is second to none. We were fortunate he was available to join us in our venture.”
Oliver thinks the town centre location should work well in attracting customers to the restaurant, and table bookings are already being taken.
Social distancing has affected the brothers’ initial plans for the layout of the bar, which will no longer offer standing room, instead ensuring everyone is seated with '1m-plus' spacing, as well as hand sanitiser available for all customers.
A balcony is currently being constructed at the back of the restaurant and will form part of the bar area.
“Imagine a lovely summer’s night on the balcony, enjoying a cocktail while overlooking the amazing view of Stamford Meadows,” said Oliver. “That’s what we’re creating.”
Opening hours will be Monday to Saturday midday until 11pm with lunches served until 2.30pm and dinners from 6pm till 9pm.
Sunday opening will be midday until 5pm for roast dinners.
On the first day, August 8, The Slanted Door will open from 5pm.
