North Luffenham has a pub once more after 12-month dry spell

Villagers are enjoying a drink at their local once again after 12 months without a pub.

The Fox and Hounds in North Luffenham reopened this week as The Fox. The village had not had a pub since the closure of the Horse and Panniers about a year ago.

Landlord Jason Allen, who also owns the Horse and Jockey in Manton, was keen to give the village a pub once more.

“We’re looking to be a good traditional pub in the village,” he said. “We opened the bar on Friday at 6pm and it was rammed to the rafters both Friday and Saturday.

“It’s quite a large village and I think they missed the pub for the last 12 months.”

Mr Allen hopes to reverse the trend of pub closures. He said: “The right pub in the right village can survive.”

The 18th century building was given a full makeover, which lasted seven months. It now has a dedicated restaurant and lounge area.
