Busy Bees Pre-School and Day Nursery in Bourne hopes to move to new premises

A children’s nursery could move into new premises to enhance its learning opportunities.

The team at Busy Bees Pre-School and Day Nursery want to offer more outdoor experiences for the 230 children they care for.

The nursery has been based in Manor Lane, Bourne, for 12 years.

In early 2020 the owners bought a bungalow and land to the rear of the nursery with a view to expanding.

A planning application was approved at the time but the pandemic brought their plans to a standstill.

Owner Laura Cuthbertson has since drawn up new designs (planning application S23/0364) and is waiting for a decision from South Kesteven District Council.

If she’s given the go ahead, the new nursery building could be ready in September.

Laura said: “We are passionate about outdoor learning. We’ve already set up a forest school but want to make outdoor learning available for all our age groups.

“It’s a wonderful experience for the children to be outside. We find they behave better and can burn off their energy.”

The new building would include six classrooms to begin with, but have been designed with the possibility of extending in the future.

The project would also pave the way for weekend events for families.

Laura said: “My mum set up the nursery more than 30 years ago and it has always been our dream to own our own property so we can do exactly what we want."
