Rutland photographer captures the Northern Lights above Normanton Church
A photographer captured a breathtaking image of the Northern Lights at Normanton Church.
Jamie Hassall took up photography after being made redundant from the fire service.
He has seen the light show many times while running photography workshops in the UK and Finland, but on Sunday evening he watched from Rutland Water.
He said: "Normanton is such an iconic church and I thought it would make an iconic photo. Everything was perfectly aligned and it was breathtaking."
Jamie used a Sony A73 camera and Sony 14mm 1.8 lens to capture the scene, but says the lights were so impressive, even a mobile phone would have done a good job.
The light show, also known as the Aurora Borealis, is created when a stream of charged particles which are escaping the sun meet with our planet's magnetic field and atmosphere. They are most commonly seen in Iceland, Norway, Finland and Greenland.
