Christmas menu at Stamford's Cosy Club restaurant really is seriously glorious
Stamford’s Cosy Club has unveiled it’s Christmas menu, promising a “seriously glorious” meal and it seriously delivers.
The three-course menu will be available from November 22 but the Mercury team were lucky enough to get a sneak preview.
A sumptuous sharing platter, comprising smoked salmon blinis, pigs in blankets, halloumi and sweetcorn bites, slow-cooked pork belly bites, baked cambert and a mushroom, tarragon and chestnut pate with toasted sourdough. It quickly got devoured with a few of our group of five discovering the delights of Camembert for the first time and even the non-mushroom lovers among us enjoyed the pate.
The pork belly bites, which were coated in a sticky-five spice and honey was by far and away the favourite. The only thing we would change is adding more of the sourdough soldiers so we could take full advantage of the creamy cheese - but staff were only too happy to give us a few more.
Our sharing platter was washed down with mulled wine and mulled cider - a new favourite of mine -and of course, a glass of fizz.
For main course, there are six options to choose from with dietary requirements well-catered for. Four of the meals are gluten-free and two are vegetarian and despite none of the Mercury team having special dietary requirements, the halloumi and winter vegetable Wellington (with all the trimmings) proved equally as popular as the Norfolk turkey and smoked bacon pie. Other options that impressed were the confit duck lef, served with dauphoinoise potatoes and red cabbage - with the meat falling readily off the bone - and the slow-roasted pork belly. Another vegetarian option is beetroot, carrot and parsnip and for fish lovers, pan-fried fillet of sea bass with a lobster butter, which was beautifully flaky.
Cocktail pitchers to accompany the meal come highly recommended with cherry bakewell and English garden flavours for those who fancy a tipple or pink lemonade mocktail for designated drivers.
To round-off the meal, there are four desserts - all equally as delicious. A light limoncello cheesecake; a chocolate and orange torte; chocolate brownie and cinder toffee trifle (my personal favourite) and of course, traditional Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. For those missing their sweet tooth, there is a selection of English cheese to round off a delicious meal.
All in all our team left with full tummies, big smiles and a feeling of surprise - usually on festive menus there’s one or two options that you might go for but with the Cosy Club’s festive menu, every dish is as delicious as the last and the ones that proved to be our favourites weren’t necessarily the ones we would have selected in advance. It was the perfect start to Christmas - even if it was in October!
Three courses (not including drinks) is £27.95 per person. Pop into make a reservation or visit www.cosyclub.co.uk, where you can also find out more.
