Stamford fireworks raise thousands of pounds for the community

Stamford sparkled and popped with this year's magnificent display of fireworks.

Stamford Kiwanis, a charity that supports local good causes, held a display at Stamford Welland Academy in Green Lane, which was attended by 3,000 people.

Children's entertainment, refreshments and mulled wine proved popular among those there to enjoy the display.

Steve Marsh, a trustee of Stamford Kiwanis, said: "The turnout was brilliant this year.

"We were worried that people were not going to want to come after the event being cancelled last year, but it was the best year so far."

While the money from the event is still being counter, it is thought to have raised more than £10,000, which will be used to support local organisations and people who are having financial difficulties.

Steve said: "People were delighted that the event was back on this year and were saying that they had a brilliant time."

One woman, however, was seen crossing the safety barriers between visitors and the fireworks and is understood to have been heard calling out the word "pollution".

She was unharmed and was seen home safely by an event marshal.

Steve added: "I send a huge thank you to all of the volunteers that helped on the night and to our event sponsors."
