Steamer Trading Store to close in Stamford
The Steamer Trading store in Stamford’s High Street is to close on May 8, with the loss of eight jobs.
The closure follows the kitchenware retailer being saved from liquidation in January when it was taken over by ProCook, which also sells cookware.
ProCook owner Daniel O’Neill said:”“We are sad to announce the closure of The Steamer Trading store on Stamford High Street but unfortunately we were not able to come to an agreement on the lease, so we’ve been left with no choice but to close the store. We will be working with staff to relocate them to positions in other nearby stores where possible.”
The closure is part of a nationwide rationalisation of stores which will also affect five other outlets in Guildford, Brentwood, Hereford, Cardiff and Witney.
Mr O’Neill blamed ‘unworkable property costs’ behind the closure of the stores, saying the move will enable the company to concentrate on its 21 other stores and website.
