Team Heidi in cancer effort with Bourne car boot sale
South Holland bargain hunters can join a shopping expedition which could help a mum-of-two from Bourne spend a few more precious months with her family.
Heidi Rock (35), of Saffron Walk, Bourne, was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in January and given the “crushing news” that she could expect to survive no longer than two years.
But rather than waiting for the cancer to take its course, Heidi has chosen to “Fight Like A Girl” and organise a series of events to fund ground-breaking treatment at the Budwig Centre Cancer Clinic in Spain which may prolong her life.
One of the events is a car boot sale at Bourne Rugby Club, Milking Nook Drove, Bourne, on Saturday from 10am until 2pm.
Heidi said: “When I was 31, I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time and it was a total shock as I know of no history of cancer in my family, I’m a non-smoker and I’d been in very good health up to that point.
“I went through two operations as the cancer had started to spread and then had both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, followed by tablets to try and stop the cancer returning.

“Once I was given the all-clear, I started running to try to regain my former health and I was successful in becoming the healthiest and fittest I’d ever been in my life.
“But in January this year, after struggling with what appeared to be a sports injury, I was given the crushing news that the cancer had returned and spread to my bones, having already affected my pelvis, spine and ribs.
“After a bone biopsy, it was established that this was not a curable cancer and would most likely kill me in a few short years.”
Bourne’s RugbyFIT women’s team held a Fight Like A Girl fun day for former team-mate Heidi which raised more than £1,450 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
