Students from The Deepings School had a taste of adult life during a series of two-week work experience placements in Lincolnshire, Rutland and Cambridgeshire.

Year 10 students were taken on at nursery and primary schools, architects and solicitors’ offices, as well as vet surgeries and by major high street names such Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Anglia Co-operative and John Lewis.

More than 200 organisations provided placements to help students develop their employability skills and experience a taste of what it is really like to go out to work.

Linda Taylor, careers and events manager at The Deepings School, said: “An opportunity to experience the world of work at first-hand enables students to consider their post-16 options more realistically and discover the qualifications and pathways required for them to reach their career goals.

“We are proud of the way students conducted themselves and this experience will enable them to further develop their work-related skills and help in their future career planning.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to all the companies and organisations that have provided a placement to our students and we really appreciate the time and resources involved in providing work experience, so we value their support.”

The school received excellent feedback from the organisations involved and they remarked on the outstanding contribution students had made during the fortnight

As a result, a number of students have been offered Saturday and holiday jobs and some have been offered the opportunity to join an apprenticeship programme following their exams next year.
