Cummins Generator Technologies in Stamford to make redundancies
More than 60 people are expected to be made redundant from a town business, the Mercury understands.
Cummins Generator Technologies, which used to be one of Stamford's biggest employers, is making more job cuts.
Staff were told in a meeting this morning (Wednesday, April 19) that a high number of people working in the manufacturing sector will be affected.
It is thought more than 60 jobs are at risk, out of around 90 staff.
One employee in Stamford, who wished to remain anonymous, is devastated by the announcement.
He said: "I feel disgusted and sick."
He thinks further redundancies were always on the cards following the closure of the Barnack Road site in 2018.
He said: "They have led employees down a road and given us false hope. It's not fair."
Cummins Generator Technologies - an international engine and generator manufacturer - made hundreds of staff redundant when the Barnack Road site closed in 2018 followed by more job losses a year later.
A spokesperson for Cummins confirmed that the company was 'reviewing its global headcount and reducing the number of employees in the organisation.'
They said: "After a careful and comprehensive evaluation of our business we are proposing a number of operational changes to align the business with the demand and to ensure we are positioned for long-term success."
However, the spokesperson said that Cummins is still committed to the Stamford site and its community, and that services are being provided to employees facing redundancy.
"We understand that our employees are the reason Cummins is successful and value and appreciate their contributions," they added.
When asked, Cummins did not provide a figure of the number of people losing their jobs.
