Poppies are on sale at Morrisons in Stamford. In Bourne they are available at Tesco and Sainsbury's from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

Steve Bonde, from the Stamford branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "Yet again we need every penny that we can raise for the welfare of members and ex-members of the Armed Forces.

"The young men and women who were damaged, mentally or physically, by their service in Iraq and Afghanistan no longer draw much attention in the news these days, but they are still young and otherwise healthy.

"They still face many more decades of life - missing an arm or a leg or both, or suffering traumatic disorder.

"The calls on the Legion’s welfare and services will continue for many years to come. We all have much work to do and it is

encouraging that so many people have again come forward to help at our collection points."
