Woolfox Golf Club's seniors' section raises £3,000 for St Barnabas’ Hospice

The ladies and gents of the Woolfox Seniors’ golf section celebrated the start of Christmas by holding their festive nine and 18-hole competitions.

In all, 44 golfers took part on a very cold and damp day.

The nine hole competition saw Tony Whiting in first place, Anna Clyde second and Anne Boyce third.

Mark Underwood, Amanda Payne, Catherine Wood-Thomas, Andrew Boyce and Sharron Beasley.

Over 18 holes, Steve Moss triumphed with 43 points, followed by David Nelson on 38 and Derrick Bell was third on 37 after pipping Phil Davis on countback.

The winners of the ‘nearest the pins’ on the par threes were John Adkins, Anne Boyce, Anna Clyde and veteran Nick Nicolle.

After a very full and busy year at Woolfox with course alterations, development of the leisure facilities and more than 100 competitions and fixtures, the seniors raised £3,000 for St Barnabas’ Hospice, a local charity looking after the terminally ill.

Andrew Boyce, the seniors’ captain, commented: “I am very grateful for the generosity and hard work of all the committee, golfers, and staff of Woolfox for helping me get to my target.

“Without their support throughout my year, we would not have done it. Importantly, we have all enjoyed it. This charity is close to the hearts of our seniors as some have had direct experience of the love and care of St Barnabas.”
