Stamford AFC re-sign striker James Hicks who is described as the Teddy Sheringham or Matt Le Tissier of non-league football

Manager Graham Drury described frontman James Hicks as the 'Teddy Sheringham of non-league football' after another player committed their future to the Northern Premier League club.

Hicks has agreed terms for a third successive season after impressive displays for the Daniels since joining from United Counties League side Anstey Nomads.

He has struck up a lethal strike partnership with Tom Siddons and boss Drury believes there is more to come from the attacker.

Drury said: "Hicksey's touch and passing range is as good as anyone in non-league.

"He can only be described as the Teddy Sheringham or Matt Le Tissier of non-league football because he is so light on his feet for a big man and his vision for a pass is there for all to see.

"I chased Hicksey for a couple of seasons before he finally decided to join us and I am so pleased he walked through the Zeeco doors and never looked back.

"When I asked him if he would re-sign it was a no-brainer for him as he enjoys playing at this football club.

"He is an out-and-out striker and, when he plays up top, he always scores goals but him and Sids have formed a relationship where it just works as Hicksey drops deep and Sids gets the goals.

"One thing about James is that he doesn't have to be the goal machine in the side as he's happy creating goals and chipping in with a fair few as well.

"He is what I class as a PlayStation footballer because he's got the skills and vision to play the killer pass and he makes it look so easy. He can honestly turn a game on its head without moving five yards.

"He's also a great lad to have back at the club and, if he really puts his mind to it, I know there is more to come and that can only be good for this football club."
