Jack Holmes has left Stamford AFC to join Rotherham United
Summer signing Jack Holmes has netted a move into the professional ranks after just a handful of pre-season games for Stamford.
Holmes has signed a full-time contract with League One side Rotherham United after an impressive trial spell with the Millers.
He caught the eye of Rotherham boss Steve Evans during the pre-season friendly between the Millers and Stamford last week.
Ex-Daniels boss Evans has handed the 22-year-old a one-year deal to end his brief stay with Stamford who he joined from Halesowen Town in pre-season.
Evans told the Rotherham United club website: "Young Jack is now a very live project for us. You can do no more than be deserving of a chance."
Holmes was absent from the Stamford side which went down to a 5-0 home defeat against Peterborough United in their pre-season friendly on Friday night.
A youthful Posh side netted five times in the opening period in front of a crowd of more than 1,400 at the Zeeco Stadium.
Jacob Wakeling fired home the opening goal for Darren Ferguson's goal before doubling his and Posh's advantage midway through the first half.
A long distance strike from Chris Conn-Clarke made it three on the half-hour mark before David Ajiboye skillfully weaved his through the Stamford defence for the fourth goal.
Jensen Sumnall then marked his Posh first team debut with a goal on the stroke of half-time to give Posh a commanding lead at the break.
Conn-Clarke had another effort cleared off the line in the second period while Stamford goalkeeper Tom Jackson made a superb stop to prevent Posh from further extending their lead.
Stamford complete their pre-season programme on Saturday with a home match against National League North side Peterborough Sports.
