Ketton claim a point in Peterborough League Premier Division draw against Polonia

Substitute Ash Joseph marked his maiden first team appearance of the season by hitting a late leveller to earn Ketton a vital point in Saturday's Peterborough League Premier Division clash with Polonia at Pit Lane.

Joseph struck with just two minutes remaining to secure a share of spoils in only the second match in six weeks for Matt Holdup's side.

The Ketton boss felt his team were worthy of the point against a Polonia side who had taken the lead through Mantas Buivydas' blistering first half strike.

Holdup said: "A draw was a fair result. There wasn't much in it and it would have been really harsh if we had lost the game.

"They had a few chances in the first half, but we set ourselves up to be tight and compact and the only time we really let them come at us down the middle of the park was for their goal.

"We sorted a few little things out at half-time and controlled the second half. We probably put too many long balls into the box which they dealt with as they are a big side.

"But we kept chasing the game and I was really pleased for Ash to come on and score. He's got lightning pace and it was a great finish.

"It was an encouraging performance after not having many games recently. There was some tired legs on a heavy pitch, but we stuck at it."

A bright Polonia start was repelled by Ketton until Buivydas took possession and burst forward before unleashing an unstoppable drive which flew into the home net.

Despite going a goal behind, Ketton responded well and dominated large parts of the contest with Harry Bell and Martin Trawford both having fine games for the home side.

Joseph and Toby Marumhoko were both introduced to boost Ketton's quest for a leveller which also saw Cal Parker pushed forward late on into the home attack.

And it was Parker who provided the assist to get Ketton back on level terms as his through ball released Joseph.

The speed of the substitute allowed him to collect the pass on the left before dinking the ball over the advancing keeper to ensure the honours finished even.

The point leaves Ketton third-from-bottom of the table and one point ahead of Leverington who they visit at the weekend.

Holdup added: "We've got two massive games before Christmas against Leverington and then ICA Sports.

"If we can get something out of both games then it should take us up a couple of places."

Ketton: James, Bell, Trawford, Parker, Parkin, Barbosa, Breakell, Jones, Rawlinson, Dennis, Szymanski. Subs used: Joseph, Marumhoko. Not used: Brew, Collins, Farrell.
