Oakham Cricket Club defeat Loughborough Town in the Leicestershire League Premier Division

Oakham continued their flying start to life as a Leicestershire League Premier Division club with victory in a run-laden clash at Loughborough Town on Saturday.

The Rutlanders racked up 313-8 from their 50 overs before dismissing their hosts for 303 after a cracking run chase which secured their second successive victory.

Oakham openers Richard Martin and Cameron Flowers had set the ball rolling after the visitors had won the toss and elected to bat first.

They put on 46 runs for the first wicket until Martin fell for 23 with Flowers then departing for 29.

That brought Rob Taylor and Ed Tattersall together at the crease to forge a superb 120-run stand for the third wicket.

Taylor was in terrific form as he smashed 13 fours and four sixes before falling just two runs short of what would have been a deserved century.

Tattersall continued to maintain the momentum as he thumped six boundaries in his 48 while Alex Anthony added a vital 33.

Shaun Morris then launched six fours and a six in his 27-ball innings of 45 not out as Oakham closed on an impressive 313-8.

Loughborough looked to make a strong start in their reply and Sanath Corjuvenkar (27) and Nick Green (48) put on 77 runs for the first wicket.

Harry Tyler and Charlie Baker both accounted for the openers before Taylor trapped Alistair Frost leg before to leave Loughborough on 95-3.

Shyam Patel then came to the crease to join Ashish Trusz and their 100-run stand for the fourth wicket brought Loughborough back into the contest.

Patel plundered 14 fours and two sixes in his 97 while Trusz gave solid support with 32 until both fell to the bowling of Flowers.

Gurbaj Singh blasted a quick-fire 48 off just 20 deliveries which featured three fours and five sixes to keep Loughborough in the contest.

However, he fell off the first ball of the last over, courtesy of a Flowers catch from Morris' bowling, to end their hopes of a remarkable victory.

Morris had swept through the Loughborough lower order to finish with 3-62 while Flowers returned 3-50 from a similar spell.

Oakham 2nds were edged out by one wicket in their closely-contested Division Four East match with Broughton Astley at the Lime Kilns.

The hosts had been bowled out for 200 with Sam Janes top scoring for Oakham after making 54.

Mark Owen added 48 with John Morton making 31 and Charlie Gill contributing 20 to the home side's cause.

Alex Dann took 6-47 from 12 overs for the visitors who scraped home with one wicket to spare after Corey Murgatroyd top-scored with 65.

Rory Brown took 3-28 from 12 overs for Oakham while Owen returned 3-37 from his 10-over stint.
